Thanks for registering for our Spring 2022 season!  The first order of business is Spring Season Skills assessment. The intent of assessment is to give coaches an opportunity to see the levels of skills among the pool of players. The assessment process helps HYBSA in establishing a level playing field by building diverse skill level teams during the draft process. All players should participate in order for HYBSA to achieve balanced teams, and the only “protected” players will be limited to the Head Coach (son/daughter) and no more than 3 Assistant Coaches (son/daughter).  Assistant Coaches must be listed before Skills Assessment to protect those players.  All coaches and Assistant Coaches are required to meet HYBSA requirements listed in our website. All players will be placed on a team regardless if they attended the try-out but will be assigned a team using a blind draft process.

HYBSA Season Skills Assessment are scheduled for Saturday, January 15th at the HYBSA Complex.  Only players in the softball / baseball divisions listed below will require tryouts based on the number of registered players and are subject to cancellation based on the number of teams. Foal and Shetland divisions will use an alternative method for team drafts. Divisions not listed are anticipated to not have enough players on 15th January requiring tryouts.

  • Softball Pinto (7/8 years old) from 9:00 am to 10 am
  • Baseball Pinto (7/8 years old) from 10:00 am to Noon
  • Baseball Mustang (9/10 years old) from 1:00 to 2:00 pm
  • Baseball Bronco (11/12 years old) 1:00 to 2:00 pm

Refer to the Pony Age Key listed in the link below if you are not sure of what division your kid belongs in.  https://ponybbsb.freshdesk.com/en/support/solutions/articles/27000058423-pony-baseball-league-age-key.  If you chose to “play-up” a division, understand that your son/daughter will be locked into the selected age division for the All-Star program and will be trying out against players in that respective division. HYBSA does not allow “playing-down” a division due to Pony rules.

Please check in at the concession stand window when you arrive to be assigned to a group. 10 kids will try out at a time. All tryouts will take place on the Mustang field.

Please bring your gear consisting of the following

  • Baseball glove
  • Baseball bat ( if you arn't sure which size yet, we have some you can use)
  • Helmet
  •

After the skills assessment, HYBSA will conduct the team draft where players will be assigned to teams for all age divisions and coaches will be contacting you by February 2nd.
